This individual is gravid with eggs and has a bleached out banding pattern. It is one of a pair about to mate.

One individual with dark bars (male) nudges the gravid individual with bleached out bars (female) shortly before mating.

Mating in progress. It seems to be the male (dark bars) that wraps around the female (bleached bars). I saw the same pattern for a couple of barred hamlets.
